Keyword Automation helps you manage Amazon PPC search terms automatically by applying consistent rules across your campaigns.
It is designed to reduce wasted spend on non-converting traffic and to scale winning search terms by promoting them into controlled, manual setups.
Keyword Automation works on search term and ASIN performance, not just keywords, and can both block poor performers and promote strong ones based on the conditions you define.
Use Keyword Automation to:
- Stop spending on search terms that never convert
- Promote high-performing search terms into manual campaigns
- Maintain clean, scalable campaign structures
- Reduce repetitive manual keyword management
How Keyword Automation works
Keyword Automation runs per campaign, but evaluates performance per search term or ASIN.
For each eligible campaign, sellerboard:
- Monitors search term or ASIN performance over time
- Evaluates that performance against your rules
- Generates recommendations or applies changes, depending on automation status
- Logs every action in the Automation Log
Keyword Automation complements Bid Automation by controlling which traffic you bid on, while Bid Automation controls how much you bid.
Where to configure Keyword Automation
How do I open Keyword Automation settings?
- Go to PPC → Dashboard.
- Switch to the Campaigns tab.
- Find the campaign you want to configure.
- Click the three dots (⋯) in the Actions column.
- Select Edit.
- Open the Keyword Automation tab.
From here, you can enable, disable, or adjust automation rules for that campaign.
Automation status modes
Keyword Automation uses the same three automation modes as Bid Automation.
Off
No keyword automation rules are applied.
Test
sellerboard generates keyword recommendations, but nothing is applied automatically.
You must review and approve each action.
On
sellerboard automatically applies keyword automation rules without manual approval.
You can switch modes at any time.
Blocking poorly performing search terms
One of the primary functions of Keyword Automation is to stop spending on traffic that does not convert.
How does negative keyword automation work?
You define a rule such as:
“If a search term has no sales after X clicks, move it to negative.”
When the condition is met, sellerboard:
- Generates a recommendation (Test mode), or
- Automatically adds the term as a negative keyword (On mode)
How do I choose the negative match type?
When configuring the rule, you can select whether the negative keyword should be added as:
- Exact
- Phrase
- Broad
This determines how aggressively traffic is blocked.
Promoting well-performing search terms
Keyword Automation can also promote strong search terms into manual campaigns for better control.
How does promotion work?
You define a rule such as:
“If a search term has more than X orders, promote it.”
When triggered, sellerboard can:
- Add the term as a keyword
- Move it into a specific campaign and ad group
- Apply a defined match type
- Assign a custom or default bid
This allows you to turn organic winners into structured, scalable traffic sources.
Conditions for promotion
When promoting search terms, you can define conditions based on:
- Number of orders
- Conversion rate
- ACOS
- ACOS relative to your target
- Profit
These conditions ensure that only search terms meeting your performance standards are promoted.
Customizing bids for promoted keywords
Can I control bids for promoted terms?
Yes.
When configuring promotion rules, you can:
- Use the destination campaign’s default bid, or
- Set a specific bid value for promoted keywords
This gives you control over how aggressively new keywords enter your manual structure.
ASIN targeting automation
Keyword Automation also supports ASIN targeting campaigns.
How does ASIN automation work?
For ASIN-targeting campaigns, you can:
- Move non-converting ASINs to negative after a defined number of clicks
- Promote high-performing ASINs to another campaign or ad group
Promotion conditions for ASINs can be based on:
- Orders
- Profit
- ACOS
- Conversion rate
This helps optimize product-targeting campaigns with the same logic used for search terms.
Viewing keyword automation recommendations
Where do I see pending keyword recommendations?
There are two places where recommendations appear.
In the PPC Dashboard
Each campaign row shows a number in the Keyword Recommendations column.
Clicking this number opens the list of pending actions for that campaign.
In PPC → Recommendations
All keyword-related recommendations are grouped centrally under:
- Well-performing search terms
- Poorly-performing search terms
Applying keyword recommendations
How do I apply recommendations individually?
- Open the recommendation.
- Review the triggering rule and performance data.
- Click Accept recommendation.
How do I apply recommendations in bulk?
- Go to PPC → Recommendations.
- Select multiple items using the checkboxes.
- Click Accept to apply them, or Snooze to delay.
Disabling or adjusting keyword automation
Can I turn off keyword automation for a single campaign?
Yes.
In the campaign’s Keyword Automation settings, you can:
- Disable individual rules
- Or set the campaign’s automation status to Off
Changes take effect immediately and do not affect historical actions.
Supported campaign types
Keyword Automation currently supports Sponsored Products campaigns.
Support for additional campaign types may be added in the future.
How Keyword Automation fits into PPC workflows
Keyword Automation works together with:
- PPC Dashboard for performance analysis
- PPC Recommendations for manual review
- Bid Automation for CPC optimization
- Automation Log for full transparency
Together, these tools create a closed loop:
Discover → Promote → Optimize → Block → Review
